Grocery Outpost Overview

One-Liner
Grocery Outpost turns restaurants into micro-grocery stores, enabling their loyal customers to pickup restaurant-quality grocery products close to home while supporting a local business.

Problem
Grocery Outpost is focused on tackling two major problems caused by COVID-19: restaurant closures and food waste.

As a result of the pandemic, 70% of restaurants are at risk of closing permanently. At the same time, restaurant suppliers — food wholesalers — have seen their sales drop as much as 90%, resulting in mountains of food intended for restaurants that will now rot in warehouses.

To combat these interrelated problems, Outpost has created an alternative to the traditional grocery store model. They empower consumers to order high-quality food products from restaurant wholesalers for delivery through their favorite neighborhood restaurants.

Traction
Since launching with two pilot restaurant locations in May, we’ve expanded to 10 Grocery Outpost locations in Greater Boston and delivered over 18,000 lbs. of grocery product to hundreds of local households.

Outpost is led by Ethan Pierce (Harvard 2013, Techstars 2020) and Emma Snyder (early Toast employee).

Mission
Outpost’s core mission is to help save the 660,000 US restaurants currently fighting for survival due to COVID-19.
